Tottenham: Ange Postecoglou to make permanent Japhet Tanganga transfer call after Millwall loan

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou will hand Japhet Tanganga a second chance in North London following his impressive loan spell with Millwall, according to Alan Hutton.

The 24-year-old has impressed on loan in the Championship since arriving at The Den in January, scoring twice including the winning goal in Millwall’s 1-0 win over Birmingham City on Saturday (9 March).

Tanganga’s current deal in North London expires at the end of the season, but Spurs do have the option to extend it for another year should they wish to do so following his temporary spell in the second tier with Neil Harris’ side.

Hutton had previously suggested that Daniel Levy would look to cash in on the versatile defender this summer, but he now admits that Postecoglou will likely have a second look at him in preseason before reaching a final decision.

“If he was in about the squad at this moment in time there would have been opportunities,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“Then it would have been up to him to show Ange that he was capable of doing that. Of course, there will be people watching him every game, the scouting network, the loans manager, all these people will be making dossiers on him.

“How’s he getting on? Is he improving? Can he come back into this team? Has he got what it takes? I think he will be back in when it comes to the summer and it will be down to him, can he show that he is good enough to be in this side?

“The ball is going to be in his court and he’s going to have to show the manager so it’s up to him. If it doesn’t work out, he’s been in the shop window and done well with the opportunity to move on.”

Will Tottenham and Daniel Levy try and sell Japhet Tanganga during the summer transfer window?

When fit, Postecoglou has a pretty settled centre-back pairing in Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, but both defenders have struggled for fitness so far this season, leading to the Spurs boss starting the likes of Ben Davies and Emerson Royal.

If Tanganga continues to impress whilst on loan at Millwall, he may do enough for Postecoglou to hand him a second chance in the first team come the end of the season, especially if he keeps popping up with goals.

There are several loanees who could be playing for their Tottenham futures this summer. Most supporters wouldn’t have put Tanganga on that list a matter of weeks ago, but he may well have now pushed himself out of the shop window.
