Tottenham: Ange Postecoglou to make Lucas Bergvall decision after ‘moment of brilliance’
Tottenham signing Lucas Bergvall could be set for a first-team role under Ange Postecoglou, after producing a moment of brilliance for Djurgården, according to Alan Hutton.
Spurs completed the signing of the wide forward during the January transfer window, beating Barcelona to the 18-year-old’s signature and he will join up with the other members of Ange Postecoglou’s side for pre-season.
Bergvall is already a full international but impressed at club level, scoring and assisting twice in Djurgården’s 5-0 win over Nordic United, with one of his strikes seeing him carry the ball from inside his own half before slotting into the bottom corner.
While Hutton was blown away by the teenager’s “incredible” goal, he still thinks Bergvall will face a battle to force his way into Postecoglou’s side next season, admitting the next few months could define his time at Spurs.
“They do their scouting on all these players and they know the quality that they have,” Hutton told Tottenham News.
“There’s going to be a moment of brilliance, we see it with different people’s goals where you think ‘Oh my goodness, that’s just incredible’ and this is obviously the same.
“But I think it’s more about what is his all-round performance like. What has he been like after 10 or 15 games? Has he shown that quality that you need to hit the ground running?
“I’m not exactly sure how it’s going to work. Is he coming in for pre-season with a view to going away with Tottenham and then seeing where it takes him? I think that’s probably the view forward.
“Then Ange will make his mind up over whether he sees him in the squad this year or in future years. So it’s really down to him and how he progresses from now until the end of the season and then into pre-season.”
Will Lucas Bergvall start for Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou?
Postecoglou and Tottenham are blessed with a number of exciting attacking options currently, but Bergvall’s displays for Djurgården this season have shown that he could have an immediate impact in North London next season.
While the likes of Son Heung-Min and Timo Werner have impressed for Spurs this season, their futures still hang in the balance and should either star leave Spurs, it may open the door for the teenager to slot into Postecoglou’s plans.
In other Tottenham news, Hutton has suggested that Daniel Levy will be ready to sanction a £15million Joe Rodon sale this summer
