Tottenham: Ange Postecoglou safe from Daniel Levy sack despite new Champions League update

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou won’t be under any pressure from the Spurs board and Daniel Levy if his side miss out on the Champions League this season, according to Alan Hutton.

Spurs currently sit fifth in the Premier League, five points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, albeit with a game in hand over Unai Emery’s side, with the two teams set to lock horns at Villa Park on Sunday (10 March).

A fifth-placed finish may be enough to qualify for the Champions League this season, should enough English teams progress in Europe this term to boost England’s coefficient points, but defeats for West Ham and Brighton have harmed those hopes.

Postecoglou has been linked with the Spurs’ exit door as rumours continue to suggest him as Jurgen Klopp’s perfect replacement at Liverpool, but Hutton doesn’t think Levy will be willing to part ways with the Australian yet.

“He’s only just in the door and he’s turned things around quickly,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“Of course, they will be disappointed if they don’t make the top four, that’s just a given and that will be their aim at the start of every season. But I’ve got a feeling that if they don’t get it this season, it won’t be the worst thing in the world because they are building something and it does take time.

“Everyone can see what Ange is trying to do and all the fans for the first time in a long a number of years are really happy, so I think they’ll stick by him.

“They will want to rebuild and want to progress and I think he will if he gets the funds to be able to bring in the players that he wants, I think they could be a really strong team next season as well.”

Would Ange Postecoglou be sacked if Tottenham missed out on the Champions League?

Postecoglou has been a revelation since arriving in North London and the Australian has transformed the entire club both off and on the field while quickly becoming a very popular figure at Tottenham.

There would be an uproar from supporters if he was sacked, but money plays an incredibly important role in Levy’s running of the football club and missing out on the Champions League to a team like Villa would be cause for concern.

Hopefully, Spurs will get a result at Villa Park, carry that momentum into the end of the campaign and book their place in next year’s tournament. That way all speculation over Postecoglou’s future can be put to bed before it’s even really begun.

In other Tottenham news, Hutton has suggested that contact will have already been made to secure Werner’s permanent future at Spurs
