Tottenham ace Guglielmo Vicario ‘back to his best’ v Brighton – Spurs Expert

Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario “looked back to his best” against Brighton on Saturday 10 February, according to ex-Spurs scout Bryan King.

Brennan Johnson’s last-minute winner from the bench ensured Ange Postecoglou’s side picked up a big three points as they defeated Brighton 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

After a tough few weeks between the sticks, Vicario looked much more confident against the Seagulls, with King wowed by his game-changing contributions.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “I thought Vicario looked good. He made some important stops after his teammates had made mistakes.

“He made two good saves and he kept Spurs in the game at times which gave them a chance to win it in the final moments. It was off the back of his hard work that his teammates were able to go on and secure all three points.

“He looked back to his best and seemed to rediscover his form from the early parts of the season where he was making big saves in the first five minutes and the final minutes of matches as well.

Tottenham will need Vicario at his best

Spurs have been conceding a lot of goals as of late, and with the top-four race looking as if it could go down to the wire, Postecoglou will need his goalkeeper on top form over the coming months.

That is why his performance against Brighton was so important with the Itallian appearing to turn a corner against Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

As per Sofascore, he made two saves from inside the box, and they were important saves too as they prevented 1.10 goals.

In addition, he completed 79 per cent of his passes and played five accurate long balls forward.

Spurs have not kept a clean sheet since a 1-0 win against Burnley in the FA Cup on Friday 5 January, and Vicario will be targeting his first shutout in over a month when Wolves visit North London on Saturday 17 February.

In other Tottenham news, King believes one big-name player has no future at the club after what happened in the win against Brighton.
