Son Heung-min faces last chance to quit Tottenham amid Manchester City transfer admission
It will be Son Heung-min’s last opportunity to get a big-money transfer away from Tottenham this summer, according to Alan Hutton.
The South Korean international has been in fine form under Ange Postecoglou when available this season, scoring 17 goals and laying on 10 assists in 35 Premier League games to fire Spurs into the Europa League.
While there has been little speculation around the 31-year-old’s future, former Lilywhites boss Jose Mourinho has admitted that he thinks the forward should be competing for titles and playing for the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool [EA Sports FC, 8 May].
Although Hutton thinks time is running out for the Spurs captain to earn such a move as he enters the twilight of his career, he believes Son will want to stay in North London to cement his stats as a Tottenham legend.
“You don’t hear too many rumours about Son moving away,” Hutton told Tottenham News.
“But Jose Mourinho has worked with him previously so he knows exactly what he is capable of and I think we all do.
“I can’t remember exactly how old he is but he’s in his early thirties so he’s probably looking at his last opportunity to get a big move if you would like. However, I don’t know where he would go because you don’t hear too much about it.
“He’s got so much to give, I think he’s a guy that will go down as a Tottenham legend and he probably wants to cement that.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he was to stay.”
Will Tottenham sell Son Heung-min in the summer transfer window after Jose Mourinho verdict?
Son is already a Spurs legend and like his former teammate Harry Kane, that will not change if he decides to leave this summer. But most Tottenham fans will be desperate to see Postecoglou keep their talisman during the transfer window.
While it is a massive shame that the 31-year-old hasn’t been able to lift silverware during his time in North London, he has left a lasting impression on the Lilywhites that would have been hard to do at another club.

Time is running out for him to jump ship and move elsewhere, but the lack of speculation around his future likely means that he isn’t keen to force a move away, unlike Kane this time last year.
Hopefully, Spurs will be able to bat away interest that arises when the transfer window opens this summer as Postecoglou will be keen to build around his captain as he looks to put his stamp on the squad.
The Australian has repeatedly insisted that he wants to be the man to transform Spurs into a team of winners and that task will become a lot easier with the South Korean international in the side.
