Sheikh Jassim takeover: £4billion-plus investment needed at Tottenham

Tottenham would need massive investment on top of any takeover bid with only a few parties likely to be able to afford it, Dan Plumley has said.

Sheikh Jassim was said to be interested in Spurs but is now in no rush to purchase a Premier League club (Daily Mail), with sovereign states and American private equity consortiums named as the few who could afford it.

Plumley, a football finance expert, has previously admitted that full investment into a takeover could cost up to £6billion, with an initial price mooted at £4bn before further cash injection to move forward.

“There are two really considerations in this,” he exclusively Tottenham News.

“One is for a Tottenham takeover nowadays, they are firmly in that elite bracket in terms of valuation, and there are only a few people, sovereign states or big American private equity consortiums as the other example who can afford that type of value.

We are talking £3-4billion at least, with further investment on top.

Financially, there are only a few people who can afford it, and you’re then looking at whether you can push them on.

Tottenham takeover on the cards?

You don’t just have to have deep pockets to fund a takeover, you need to progress that club forward and Spurs have the positives of the stadium and NFL deal that is starting to generate them more revenue, but they still need more investment to get to that next level as a lot of clubs do.

In terms of that particular person or ownership structure, it’s probably one of the few that could have afforded it and progress it forward.”

Premier League clubs are massive attractions to investors, but the prices are only going one way with new stadiums and state-of-the-art facilities alongside them.

Spurs are at the top of that list, but with on-field success lacking, it would take serious investment to push towards that if someone takes over from Daniel Levy.
