Sergio Reguilon exit verdict at Tottenham as Brentford join January transfer window push for move – Sky Sports pundit
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…
Sergio Reguilon’s time is up at Tottenham and he won’t have a place in the squad under Ange Postecoglou after his Manchester United loan was ended early, according to Paul Robinson.
Fabrizio Romano reported via X on 14 January that Brentford are the latest club interested in signing the Spaniard during the January transfer window, with his exit “expected” this month.
Sky Sports pundit Robinson agrees his Spurs career is over, while there could be further departures before the deadline, with Eric Dier already having departed for Bayern Munich and Djed Spence having been sent on loan to Genoa as part of the deal to sign Radu Dragusin.
The former Spurs and England keeper accepts it is difficult for the manager to juggle departures until he is sure of what sort of replacements he can bring the opposite direction he feels the writing is already on the wall for Reguilon.
After two years as the regular Tottenham starter at left-back it is now a season and a half since he featured for the club in any capacity, with just some infrequent action in back-to-back loans with Atletico Madrid and at Old Trafford to show for the past two campaigns.
The 27-year-old will still have a year left on his contract with the club come the summer so whenever he ends up this month he will need to play well enough to drum up permanent transfer interest.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News Robinson said: “I don’t think he’ll come back to Spurs, I don’t think he’ll fit into the squad, unless they’re really that threadbare with injuries and he can’t get players through the door.
“January’s a big month for a lot of players at Spurs regarding who comes in, because I don’t think a lot of players’ futures can be decided until the manager knows what he can get through the door.
“You might see a couple of late exits from Tottenham depending on the arrivals, but Reguilon’s one for me who it looks like his time’s up.”
In other Tottenham news, Robinson reacted instantly to “fantastic” transfer news for a Spurs man.
