Sergio Reguilón exit: Tottenham under pressure from agent as Mourinho talks held
Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilón’s immediate future in North London remains up in the air.
Reguilón is out of contract at the end of the season and looked destined to leave Spurs in the winter transfer window – with the club even backed to make a special agreement to offload the Spaniard.
However, as a result of recent injuries, Ange Postecoglou has been forced “to eat humble pie”, with the full-back regularly featuring in matchday squads over the past month.
Despite this, Fenerbahçe are still trying to sign Reguilón, with José Mourinho having held talks with the 28-year-old [via Fotomac, 15 January].
And ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Reguilón’s agent will be putting pressure on the North London club.
“Let’s say you’re running a business,” King said.
“You’ve got yourself a nice little shop where four people work, and three of them are off sick. If the fourth asks you to leave, you tell them ‘I’m sorry, but you’re going to have to wait until someone else is back.’
“You can’t leave yourself short. If you don’t want to play for a football club, don’t sign a contract. If things don’t work out, then the club will decide if you’re going to leave. However, unfortunately in the modern game, you have agents putting pressure on football clubs – and that is what is going on here.”
Sergio Reguilón to remain at Tottenham until the end of the season?
Despite the club’s injury crisis, there have still been calls for Reguilón to be moved on, with Lliywhite Rose owner John Wenham urging Postecoglou to play an academy player ahead of the ex-Real Madrid man.
And with Mourinho pushing for a transfer, it looks as though the possibility of a Spurs exit remains on the table.
However, it remains to be seen whether this possibility becomes a reality.
