Sergio Reguilón exit claim emerges after ‘terrible’ Tottenham injury development

Ange Postecoglou might be forced to call on Tottenham outcast Sergio Reguilón.

Postecoglou has seen the majority of his defence wiped out by injury, with Destiny Udogie the latest player set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after an update from Paul O Keefe via his personal X account on Wednesday (1 January).

Reguilón looked to have no future in North London and had been tipped to reunite with José Mourinho in Turkey [via AS, 18 December].

However, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Udogie’s injury will have put a stop to any potential Spurs exit for Reguilón this month.

“They’ve now lost their main left-back for a long period of time,” King said.

“Whether it is unlucky, unusual, or people just aren’t doing their jobs, I don’t know. However, this is terrible for the club. That list of injuries they’ve got is worrying.

“Therefore, it looks as though Postecoglou will be forced to eat humble pie and bring in Reguilón, who I can’t see being sold now because he’s the perfect replacement as a left-back.”

Ange Postecoglou to call on Sergio Reguilón at Tottenham?

Postecoglou and Johan Lange are expected to seal a new signing for Tottenham after Udogie’s injury blow [via GiveMeSport, 1 January].

However, there is no guarantee at this moment of a deal getting done, and if Spurs do fail to bring in a new left-back, Reguilón will be one of the few options they have left.

Therefore, while a move away has been speculated, it seems as though Postecoglou cannot allow the Spaniard to leave the club now.

And Reguilón’s reintroduction to the Spurs team would highlight just how severe the injury situation in North London is.
