Santiago Gimenez wants ‘to be a part’ of Tottenham as Feyenoord star spotted at Arsenal clash
Tottenham transfer target and Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez will “want to be a part” of Ange Postecoglou’s side after new developments, according to Alan Hutton.
The 23-year-old has been in excellent form in the Eredivisie this season, scoring 21 goals in 29 matches and his form hasn’t gone unnoticed by Spurs who have been labelled as “ones to watch” in the race for his signature [Ben Jacobs, 30 April]
While no concrete updates have emerged over the striker’s future, the Mexican international was spotted at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (28 April) as Postecoglou’s side were beaten by Arsenal in the North London derby [Football London, 29 April].
While Hutton admits Son Heung-min has impressed as a striker, he believes Gimenez will be “desperate” to move to the Premier League and thinks the “incredible” North London derby atmosphere could influence his decision.
“I’m sure any player who has been seen at the stadium will have realised what it’s all about,” Hutton told Tottenham News.
“I mean it is an incredible atmosphere there, especially at that game and you’d want to be a part of that. I think for a lot of players across Europe that is their aim, to get to the Premier League. They understand that it is one of the best in the world.
“Technically everything that it brings as well as the wage demands that some players have got and I do think it is a position where they do need to strengthen. Son has done incredibly well, I really like him playing through the middle, but I also like him playing from the left.
“I think his pace and drive gives you something that you expect from Timo Werner but he doesn’t really give you. I always believed that when Harry Kane left, they would have to bring somebody in eventually.
“They will have options and there will be players desperate to come to the club. We’ll wait and see in the summer but I think it is somewhere they do have to strengthen.”
Will Tottenham sign Santiago Gimenez in the summer transfer window after Arsenal update?
As Hutton suggested, most supporters expected a new striker to arrive at Spurs last summer following Kane’s departure. While Richarlison and Son have impressed, neither have matched the England captain’s exploits.

Whether Gimenez is the man to fill that void at the top end of the pitch remains to be seen, but his record in the Netherlands this season shows he knows where the goal is. Whether Spurs can win the race for his signature is what remains to be seen.
Hopefully, the 23-year-old would have been impressed with what he saw in Tottenham’s 3-2 defeat to the Gunners and decide that a summer move would be the best thing for him. It would certainly be a big boost to Postecoglou.
