Ryan Sessegnon worried he’s finished at Tottenham after crushing development in February
Tottenham defender Ryan Sessegnon will be worried that his career with Spurs could be finished already, after a crushing new injury blow in February, according to Alan Hutton.
Sessengnon, who has only made one cameo for Spurs this season, featured for Tottenham’s under-21 side against West Ham, but went down with a new hamstring injury after only 33 minutes and was seen on crutches as he made his way off the pitch [Alasdair Gold, 19 February].
So far, there has been no confirmation of how long the 23-year-old could be stuck on the treatment table, but given his injury woes so far this term, it seems unlikely that Ange Postecoglou can rely on him to be a regular fixture of his first-team squad.
While Hutton admits that he would be worried by the versatile left-back’s recent injury record, he doesn’t think Spurs will look to move him on in the summer transfer window and thinks he has plenty to offer in North London.
“I think from a personal point of view, you would be worried,” Hutton Tottenham News.
“He’s a guy who I played against when he was at Fulham and he was an outstanding footballer. He was up and down the pitch and he was strong, athletic and he was so young.
“He had so much more to give as well so to go through the last few seasons, be bought for a decent amount of money and not just be able to stay fit, I’d be asking why is this happening all the time?
“He’s going through all the rehab, he’s coming back and playing for the under-21s, then he’s getting injured again. You would have to look deeper into it.
“I don’t think Spurs will cut ties, it’s not like he’s 28, 29 or 30 when they’d be looking to move him on. He’s still young and the potential is still there.”
Will Tottenham look to sell Ryan Sessegnon in the summer transfer window?
Postecoglou isn’t blessed with masses of defensive depth at Spurs, especially on the left side after Ivan Perisic departed North London in the January transfer window to complete a move back to Croatia with Jadjuk Split.

While Destiny Udogie has impressed so far this season and has been widely praised by pundits and supporters alike, the Italian and Ben Davies are the only obvious left-back options available to Postecoglou when Sessegnon is sidelined.
At 23, his injury record is concerning, but he showed last season that when he is fit and available, he can be a valuable asset to Spurs in a variety of different roles. Hopefully, Sessegnon can get over this latest setback and be back fit and available sooner rather than later.
