Ryan Sessegnon to assess options at Tottenham after Galatasaray transfer update emerges

Tottenham defender Ryan Sessegnon will be “looking at his options” ahead of the summer transfer window in North London, according to Alan Hutton.

The versatile 23-year-old has had a difficult season under Ange Postecoglou and is yet to make an appearance in the Premier League under the Australian having been hit by several new injury issues across the campaign.

Despite his lack of first-team action so far this term, the former Fulham man has reportedly attracted interest from Turkish side Galatasaray and is keen to begin a new chapter in his career after a troubled spell in North London [Aspor, 24 April].

While Hutton believes Sessegnon still has the ability to thrive under Postecoglou in the future, he thinks both Spurs and the versatile defender will have to decide whether a move away could be best for all parties involved.

“I can’t remember what they paid for him, I think it was over £20million,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“He’s just not been able to stay fit unfortunately because I think he is a very good player. He’s a guy that needs confidence, if he’s not playing regularly week in and week out you see that dip in form.

“He has been really unlucky with injuries, I do really feel for him. They might look at him at think is it time for us to move and try and recoup some of that money and reinvest? It’s an interesting one because he’s still young and I think he’s still got a lot to give.

“I think Ange would like him as a player and he’s the type of manager that would put his arm around him and give him the confidence he needs. But again, there is a lot of quality in front of him, is he able to break into that team and be a regular?

“That’s down to him, but he’s another one that will be looking at his options. But first and foremost he needs to get himself fit.”

Will Ryan Sessegnon leave Tottenham Hotspur amid new transfer rumours?

As Hutton suggested, perhaps the biggest issue for Sessegnon and the London Stadium is the sheer amount of options ahead of him currently in Postecoglou’s pecking order that block his path to the first-team.

In defence, when fit, Destiny Udogie is the preferred left-back and the Italian starts almost every week with Ben Davies waiting in the wings. In attack, the Englishman would have to contend with Timo Werner, Son Heung-min and Brennan Johnson.

There doesn’t seem to be an obvious space for the 24-year-old to force his way back into the squad and it could be best for all parties if he moves away this summer. Hopefully, he can get himself fit so his options are open.
