Reported figure for Tottenham and Brentford target Antonio Nusa an ‘obscene’ amount of money – Spurs Expert

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes the figures being quoted for Tottenham and Brentford target Antonio Nusa are an “obscene” amount of money.

Fabrizio Romano reported via his official X account (20 January) that Spurs were “pushing” to get a deal for the winger across the line.

However, the Italian journalist provided an update over a week later (28 January), revealing that Brentford had stolen a march on their London rivals and swooped in to agree a deal with Club Brugge to sign the Norwegian for a total package in excess of £25million.

As per Sky Sports News (1 February), there has been yet another twist as the 18-year-old now looks set to stay at Club Brugge and join Brentford in the summer after an issue was flagged in his medical on Monday, while Tottenham have shown no interest in making a late move before the deadline.

And Wenham believes that this is probably for the best from the North London club’s perspective.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “I just think the money got a little bit out of hand.

“The total fee was approaching the £25million mark which is just obscene money for an 18-year-old who has never played in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

“It’s just too much for someone that’s untried. Moving from the Belgian league to the Premier League is a massive step and the acclimatization might prove to be too much for the player at such a young age.

“It is a big jump to make directly rather than him perhaps moving to the French or Italian league and then moving to the Premier League.

“For me, it would have been too much money for what was ultimately a gamble.”

In other Tottenham news, Wenham is hopeful the club can finalise terms for a “dream” Deadline Day loan exit.
