Pundit tips Timo Werner to replace Son Heung-Min at Tottenham Hotspur in new ‘no problem’ admission
We’re delighted to welcome former Scotland right-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…
Timo Werner will have “no problem” stepping into Son Heung-min’s shoes at Tottenham Hotspur during the Asia Cup thanks to his experience of the Premier League, according to Alan Hutton.
The German international made his Spurs debut in the 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday (14 January) only a matter of days after joining Ange Postecoglou’s side on loan for the remainder of the Premier League season.
It wasn’t the perfect performance as the 27-year-old missed a number of half chances in front of goal, but he did pick up the all-important assist for Rodrigo Bentancur’s second-half strike to ensure the points were shared.

Many were surprised to see Werner picked from the start at Old Trafford, but Hutton believes that the German’s time with Chelsea earlier in his career will allow him to have an immediate impact in a Tottenham shirt.
“I think that kind of comes down to the fact that they needed him,” Hutton told Tottenham News.
“Obviously Kuluvseski was ill, would that have changed things? Maybe, maybe not. Son’s away, Maddison is out so they needed him.
“Where it suits him better is that he’s played in the league, he’s played at Old Trafford before, and he wouldn’t be fazed by it.
“He knows the players he’s up against. It’s different if you’re a young player coming from a different country and you don’t know your surroundings, then it can be difficult for you.
“But I think given his experience he can handle that no problem.”

Werner will once again need to call upon that experience for Spurs’ next clash, an FA Cup fourth-round tie with Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where the 27-year-old will likely make his first start in front of the home crowd.
With Son still away on international duty, the German forward will have to continue to step up to the challenge and perform from the off against the Premier League and European champions. Hopefully, he’ll remain as unfazed as Hutton has suggested.
