Pundit shares ‘incredible’ Pedro Porro Tottenham verdict in new Manchester City transfer admission

We’re delighted to welcome former Scotland right-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…

Alan Hutton has admitted that “incredible” Tottenham star Pedro Porro fits the bill of a Pep Guardiola full-back, amid transfer interest from Manchester City.

Tottenham News has been told by a recruitment source that City are interested in a summer move for the Spurs right-back as they looked to find a long-term replacement for Kyle Walker, with Guardiola’s Spanish connection making a transfer hard to turn down.

Walker, now 33, made the switch from North London to the Etihad Stadium back in 2017 and while he has been a regular for the Champions this season, his age has forced City to look for potential replacements.

Former defender Hutton believes Tottenham fans are currently seeing the best of Porro in a Spurs shirt and admits that he isn’t surprised Manchester City are looking at the “incredible defender”.

Maybe, you never know,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“I think Porro has come in and he’s taken time to settle and he’s done that ever so well now and I think we’re seeing the best of him. You see his goal, it’s a stunning strike, his free-kicks, his corners he’s got the ability.

“I think Pep, what would tick the biggest box for him in the kind of position he can play. He’s shown that he can go inside the pitch, it’s not just underlapping and overlapping.

“He can actually go into midfield, he can play as that number 10, which is incredible to think of a full-back playing there nowadays.

“He fits the bill for him so I’m not surprised they’re looking at him, but again it’s one we’ll just have to wait and see.”

While Porro showed some impressive signs under the management of Antonio Conte last season, the 24-year-old has really found a new gear under Postecoglou, picking up six assists in the Premier League and even managing to find the net in the FA Cup third round [Fotmob].

The Spanish international has had a key role to play in Spurs’ new system, advancing into an attacking midfield role in possession. He would be a perfect fit at the Etihad Stadium, but Tottenham fans will be hoping he doesn’t copy Kyle Walker’s path and make the switch come the end of the campaign.
