Premier League officials could face ‘financial sanctions’ soon after Tottenham v Man United footage

Premier League officials could soon find themselves in trouble after more drama as Tottenham beat Manchester United, Keith Hackett has said.

Spurs battled to a much-needed 1-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday, with Chris Kavanagh handing out three cautions throughout.

Casemiro was one of those booked but was at the heart of another flashpoint as the Red Devils pushed for an equaliser in the second half.

FA could take action after Tottenham and Manchester United drama

The Brazilian went down far too easily under slight contact from Djed Spence but escaped another booking, something which needs to be clamped down on.

Hackett, an ex-FIFA official and PGMOL chief admits that the referee body must instruct stronger action on simulation after several incidents in the Premier League this weekend.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Hackett then suggested that meetings be held to ensure tougher action before possible financial penalties are brought in against officials for failing to do so.

An act of simulation to deceive the referee is a cautionable offence,” he said.

“Sadly the first line of attack must be for the PGMOL to instruct its match officials to take stronger action on acts of simulation.

“I would suggest that before they put the squeeze on they hold three regional meetings with Premier League and Football League Managers.

“Inviting the League Managers Association and PFA to be in attendance. Ensure through the media that there is a change in policy on acts of simulation and that firmer. Action will be taken.

“Referees will face financial sanction if they fail to apply the laws.

Finally, The FA set up a review panel that looks at incidents and has the power to apply retrospective action.

“It is getting worse for sure.

Premier League punishment on cards after Tottenham win

It wasn’t just at Tottenham where simulation was a big talking point on Sunday, with Liverpool star Diogo Jota being given a penalty before VAR overturned it.

Just like Casemiro, Jota avoided punishment for simulation as Hackett suggests harsher sanctions are needed from the PGMOL and Premier League.

Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou have avoided that spotlight this season, but sack pressure has been more consistent in North London, with the Australian hoping he has dodged that bullet for now.
