Premier League called out after official Tottenham announcement – Exclusive
Tottenham’s fixture with Aston Villa has been rescheduled over fears of a clash with the Europa League final.
Despite the end of the season approaching, both Aston Villa and Tottenham have something left to play for ahead of the final few games, albeit the latter will be hoping for European success.
Tottenham are 90 minutes away from a Europa League final, which will be their final chance of achieving Champions League qualification for the new campaign.
Taking that into account, the Premier League announced that the encounter between the two sides would be moved, and the reaction has been mixed.

Paul Robinson calls for more from Premier League
English teams thriving in Europe do a lot for the Premier League, as showcased by the five Champions League spots up for grabs this season.
However, Paul Robinson thinks they should still be doing more to support their sides in European competitions, while passing the decision they have made.
Speaking to Tottenham News, he said: “I think we should help the English teams that are in Europe. I think we see a lot of countries around Europe that will cancel fixtures on a weekend to support their teams that are in the Champions League.
“But I don’t think, as a Premier League, as an FA, we help our teams in Europe in the same way as the other teams around Europe do. So, you know, Ligue 1, Serie A, and especially Bodo/Glimt in Norway. I know there are only five games into a season, but in between the Tottenham games, Bodo don’t have a game in between because they know how important it is.
Tottenham fixtures | Date to be played |
Bodo/Glimt | 8 May |
Crystal Palace | 11 May |
Aston Villa | 16 May |
Europa League final (if progress past Bodo) | 21 May |
Brighton | 25 May |
“This should be, right, as a nation, we support every single club that we’ve got in European competition, and we’ll do all that we can to help them progress.
“I think we should help every single club, but not just Tottenham in this, obviously, in this instance, it’s them. But I think we should do all that we can to help our teams progress in any European competition. It shouldn’t be breaking news.”

Tottenham must use fixture change to their advantage
Tottenham had very few, if any, excuses not to win the Europa League anyway, but even less so now that they have had their clash with Villa moved.
A failure to do so will be detrimental to their hopes of progressing next season.
