Postecoglou told to issue official Tottenham statement after fan confrontation

Ange Postecoglou has been told to issue an official statement after he clashed with a Tottenham fan at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

Spurs suffered their 15th Premier League defeat of the season on 16 March as they lost 2-0 to Fulham.

Fans were furious at full-time in West London, with Tottenham told to terminate Son Heung-min’s contract after footage of the 32-year-old emerged.

A video was shared to social media of Mathys Tel in discussion with some Tottenham fans in the away end. However, the incident appeared civil, with the supporters simply voicing their displeasure at the performance while still expressing their support for Tel.

Meanwhile, Postecoglou also found himself engaging with a supporter as he made his way down the tunnel at Craven Cottage. However, unlike Tel, the Australian’s interaction was far more heated.

In footage shared to X by SpursArmyTweets (16 March), Postecoglou is seen clashing with a Spurs supporter who was questioning the team’s performance against Marco Silva’s side.

However, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think the Australian should be responding to such situations, and should instead reserve his comments for press conferences and official statements.

“This was unnecessary and I thought Postecoglou would be above this kind of thing,” King said.

“Fans pay their money, ultimately they can say what they want unless it is threatening or abusive. As a manager, you don’t get involved. I would have thought Postecoglou would have more about him than to be getting involved in these incidents.

“This isn’t the first time it has happened this season. Fans pay their money, and as long as they do not react in a way which is threatening or abusive, let them get on with it. Why waste your time getting involved, just walk away.

“If Postecoglou wants to respond to this fan, do it through the press or the Tottenham Hotspur website. You don’t get involved in the moment. He needs to be above things like that.”

Postecoglou needs to be more patient at Tottenham

Spurs are currently 14th in the Premier League.

Therefore, it is understandable that fans aren’t going to be too best pleased at the moment, especially not the supporters paying to attend matches.

This isn’t the first time Postecoglou has clashed with some of his own fans either. As a result, he needs to learn to be more patient and not get involved in such incidents, as it only reflects poorly on him.
