Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg exit on the cards amid Tottenham links to Quinten Timber
Tottenham being linked to Feyenoord midfielder Quinten Timber suggests a summer exit is on the cards for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Paul Robinson has said.
It was reported by TeamTalk (7 March) that Spurs are battling North London rivals Arsenal for the signature of the 22-year-old, who is the twin brother of Gunners defender Jurrien Timber.
Timber, who made his debut for the Netherlands national team against Germany on 26 March, has impressed this season with seven goals and seven assists.
And former Spurs goalkeeper Robinson – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks the rumours are a sign that the out-of-favour Hojbjerg is set to depart North London.
“Yeah, Timber’s a good player and he’s just been called into the national squad for the first time I think,” Robinson said.
“He’s got real potential, real quality, combative midfielder, he’ll get good club-level experience where he is now.
“And I think if Spurs are linked to that type of player and looking at that type of midfielder, he’s changed it up a little bit the last couple of games he’s played Bissouma and Sarr in there and Bentancur’s been on the bench, Hojbjerg’s not really got a look in – so that’s not necessarily an area where he’s (Ange Postecoglou) comfortable with.
“I mean, Bissouma, Sarr, Bentancur, we know their qualities but he doesn’t seem to have a settled two, especially now after the defeat at Fulham with Bissouma and Sarr in there, Bentancur on the bench, that’s the manager’s preference.
“But if a player of Timber’s ilk is being looked at and touted for the future at Tottenham then it probably brings into question Hojbjerg’s future and others.
“Hojbjerg has been very reliable for Tottenham, every time he’s been needed but he’s not the manager’s first choice, whether he changes the team up or not it’s always Hojbjerg who regularly misses out, so if a player of Timber’s quality would come into the side it would probably pave the way for Hobjerg to go and get regular football somewhere.”
Tottenham to move for Feyenoord ace Quinten Timber?
Spurs certainly looked a little low on midfield options earlier this season when injuries and international duties left them a little depleted in the centre.
But even accounting for that, Hojbjerg has been well and truly on the periphery of the first team this season.

So, if Postecoglou is looking at other options in the engine room for the summer window then it surely means that the Denmark international is going to seek a new challenge.
It feels like it would be the best solution for all involved even if a new signing wasn’t made in midfield this summer.
