Pedro Porro decision slammed at Tottenham as new development emerges

Paul Robinson has slammed Spain national team manager Luis de la Fuente after Tottenham ace Pedro Porro was left out of his Euro 2024 provisional squad.

The only Premier League defender to be named in de la Fuente’s squad was Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella as Spain prepare for the European Championship in Germany this summer.

With three goals and seven assists in 35 Premier League appearances this season, Porro has been a standout player for Ange Postecoglou, leaving everyone surprised by the international snub.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “It’s interesting. We know that the Spain squad is very, very strong but the way Porro has played this season, he’s been one of Spurs’ best players.

It’s not just his defensive capabilities, but going forward, the goals he’s chipped in with. The biggest compliment is that when he and Udogie haven’t played, they’ve really struggled in those areas, and that might be where they look for reinforcements in the summer.

“To miss out on the international squad after the way he’s played, you question – ‘What else does he have to do?’ I can’t recall a season watching him, whether that’s at Tottenham or another of his clubs, that he’s played as well as he has this season. From the player’s point of view, it must be – ‘What else do I need to do?”

“He’s playing in the top six of the Premier League. How can you better your chances than playing in the top six of the Premier League, playing regularly, and playing well? It’s very difficult to see where he would go to better his international chances.”

Tottenham star Pedro Porro misses out on international call-up

The 24-year-old right-back has experienced a sensational season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, thriving under Postecoglou’s leadership and matching Udogie’s energy on the opposite flank.

It is a very shocking decision to see Porro miss out on Spain’s provisional squad, especially with the player already having three international caps to his name.

Instead, Cucurella, Dani Carvajal, Jesus Navas and Alex Grimaldo will currently be the full-backs potentially taken to Germany, though it will be expected that Porro is next in line in case of injuries.
