Oliver Skipp told to complete summer Tottenham exit despite new Premier League update

Tottenham duo Oliver Skipp and Troy Parrott need to “go and play football” despite a new Premier League quota update, according to Alan Hutton.

Parrott has spent the season on loan in the Eredivisie with Excelsior where he has impressed scoring eight goals in 22 league appearances, while Skipp has been in and out of Ange Postecoglou’s side appearing 17 times in the Premier League.

Reports have emerged suggesting Spurs could block both players from leaving the club during the summer transfer window as they may need both players to remain in North London to fulfil the Premier League’s homegrown quota [GiveMeSport, 22 April].

While Hutton understands that Postecoglou and Spurs have to match the division’s rules, he believes both players will feel “used” by Tottenham and thinks it could be best for their careers if they complete permanent exits.

“I get it from the football team’s point of view, they need to fill quotas,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“The flip side of that is that if they’re never going to play, they’re kind of just being used a little bit. It’s their career and they need to go and play football, you need to assess and look at all the options.

“Have they got other players coming through the youth ranks that they can use at different times to fill quotas that you can see potential in?

“There is a pathway for them into the first team to get them in and let them know what it’s all about and allow these guys who you don’t see a future for at the club to go somewhere else and kick on with their career.

“I do definitely see both sides, but the players that you mentioned, Skipp has done well when he has been called upon but he is a squad player. Is he happy with that or is he not?

“You need to assess all the options to see what is best for the club and for the player.”

Will Troy Parrott and Oliver Skipp leave Tottenham in the summer transfer window?

It has been clear for some time now that Parrott’s time at Spurs is nearing its end, with various reports suggesting teams all over Europe are already eyeing the Irish International ahead of the summer transfer window.

His loan spell this season has shown what he is capable of when playing regular first-team football and you would imagine the striker would be keen to complete a permanent exit, rather than dropping back to Postecoglou’s bench.

Skipp has been little more than a squad player since the Australian International arrived in North London and it seems unlikely that will change next season.

While neither player is old, it feels unlikely they’ll be keen to spend another season watching on the sidelines instead of playing regular first-team football. Hopefully, Postecoglou will promote some new academy talent rather than keeping players past their sell-by date as reported.
