Oliver Irow ‘could leave Tottenham this summer’ as contract details emerge
Oliver Irow could be on his way out of Tottenham despite his impressive recent form.
The 18-year-old has been on fire recently, scoring for a fifth time in six matches on Sunday (26 January) as Spurs’ Under-21s beat Liverpool’s Under-21s 2-0 at the Lamex Stadium.
However, Irow is yet to be handed any first-team opportunities in North London, and despite Ange Postecoglou having gaps on his bench for the 2-1 Premier League defeat to Leicester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, Irow wasn’t afforded a place in the matchday squad.
Therefore, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – wouldn’t be surprised if the youngster – who is thought to be out of contract this summer – moves on when his deal expires.
“It is unclear what is going to happen to Irow,” Wenham said.
“My understanding is that his contract is up in the summer. He would be one of the players I would look to keep from the current Under-21s.
“However, I wouldn’t be surprised if the club choose to let him go because we’ve already got a lot of young players coming through. Therefore, it will be interesting to see what happens, but it is obviously great for him that he has been scoring so many goals as of late.”
Oliver Irow to leave Tottenham?
Plenty of Spurs supporters likely haven’t heard much of Irow, and wouldn’t be too sad to see him leave. However, that isn’t to say that the player hasn’t demonstrated potential this season.
As a result, he will feel as though he deserves a crack at the first team.
However, for whatever reason, Postecoglou doesn’t seem to agree. While plenty of Spurs’ academy players have been called upon this season, Irow hasn’t had the same opportunity, despite featuring regularly for the Under-21s.

Therefore, if he were to move on in the summer it wouldn’t be a surprise, and Spurs will just have to hope they don’t live to regret letting Irow go.
In other Tottenham news, Alan Shearer has hit out at Postecoglou’s “excuses”.
