Mikey Moore set for Premier League loan move after Tottenham development

Mikey Moore is set for a bright future after earning his Tottenham breakthrough under Ange Postecoglou this season, Paul Robinson has said.

The 16-year-old made his senior debut as Spurs were beaten 2-0 by the Premier League champions, Manchester City, becoming the club’s youngster-ever Premier League debutant.

Postecoglou utilised him once again on the final day of the season, playing the final few minutes of Spurs’ 3-0 win against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, though Robinson believes a loan spell could be his next move.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “He’s got a bright future. It depends on the recruitment in the summer, but the manager has clearly shown he is not afraid to use youngsters, with Mikey Moore being the perfect example.

“If he’s good enough, and there’s a place in the squad, the manager will give him his opportunities. But I think the biggest thing is the size of the squad next season. There are a lot of players in that squad currently that the manager doesn’t necessarily want.

“Joe Rodon is out on loan at Leeds, the club’s record signing Tanguay Ndombele is out in Turkey on loan, players who won’t play like Giovani Lo Celso, Eric Dier also out on loan. There are a lot of players, including Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who has spoken about leaving.

“The outgoing are going to be key. A few players are taking up a huge bunch of the wage bill, whether they’re out on loan or just not playing. Emerson Royal is still getting interest from other clubs too.

“It’ll be interesting to see who goes out of the club compared to what comes in.

But Mikey Moore is clearly a player who has a big future there, but for him personally, it’s another season with Ange, where he’s training every day with top-level Premier League players or if the manager sees fit, it’s a top Championship or lower-half Premier League loan move.

“But that might not be next season; it could be the season after. There’ll be a clear development path for him and it’s whatever the club have decided for him.”

He also grabbed two goals and an assist in as many FA Youth Cup matches, earning himself another call-up for international duty with England Under-17s, scoring twice against France before netting against Portugal in a 4-1 defeat.

Postecoglou clearly thinks the youngster is ready for first-team football. The question is whether he can continue to develop enough with Spurs or if he needs a loan move first.
