Mauricio Pochettino’s thoughts on Conor Gallagher revealed as ‘for once’ Tottenham act properly
Conor Gallagher looks set to be Tottenham’s second signing of the winter transfer window.
Tottenham have hijacked Aston Villa’s approach for the midfielder, who is keen on moving from Atletico Madrid, after already agreeing a deal for Santos left-back Souza.
Tottenham have submitted a £34million offer, and it is expected to be accepted by the Spanish club, with the formalities then to be discussed.
Gallagher will add much-needed depth to Thomas Frank‘s midfield ranks, but he has been warned he must do one thing to succeed in North London.
What must Conor Gallagher do to succeed at Tottenham?
John Wenham revealed that he loves the signing, but warned the ex-Chelsea man that he needs to recreate the form that he was in as Chelsea captain, under ex-Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “I’m delighted. The club is acting properly, for once.
“We need him to be this version, it’s worth remembering how much Pochettino loved him at Chelsea, he was his captain.”
The version of Gallagher that Wenham highlights is from the 2023-24 campaign, when he topped the Blues squad for duels won(212), tackles won(52), possession won(221) and interceptions(43).

He also ranked second for assists with seven and chances created with 53 in that season.
How has Gallagher performed at Atletico?
Gallagher made the move to Atletico after that season, in the summer of 2024, and he impressed in his first campaign in Spain.
The 25-year-old made 50 appearances in his first campaign with the club, scoring four goalsand notching six assists.
His second season in Madrid has not gone to plan, though, as he has featured 27 times, with the majority of his appearances coming from the bench.
However, if he is given more starting opportunities in N17 than the 12 that he has had this campaign, he should be able to get back to the previous levels and be a key asset for the Lilywhites.
It could prove to be a brilliant piece of business, especially with Gallagher having extra motivation, with the World Cup coming up in the summer.
