Mathys Tel slammed as £43m+ Tottenham transfer news emerges

Mathys Tel has been criticised for his lack of impact at Tottenham as an update emerges on the Bayern Munich loanee’s long-term future.

Ange Postecoglou worked hard to convince Tel to join Tottenham on loan from Bayern Munich in the winter transfer window.

The North London side even had a helping hand from Harry Kane. However, Tel’s time in the Premier League hasn’t panned out how the Frenchman would have liked it to.

The 19-year-old hasn’t been a regular since he arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while he has also had a few run-ins with Spurs supporters, with an update now emerging on his future.

Tel blasted as Tottenham transfer stance made clear

In a miserable 4-2 Premier League defeat against Wolves at Molineux on Sunday (13 April), Tel was one of the few positives.

The Bayern Munich loanee scored his third Spurs goal after starting in the West Midlands, and an update has now emerged on where Tel might be playing his football next season.

As reported by Florian Plettenberg via X (11 April), Tottenham are considering a permanent move for Tel.

However, the Lilywhites want to renegotiate with Bayern Munich as they aren’t willing to activate the £43-47.5million buy clause in their loan agreement.

Tel has no future under the current leadership in Bavaria, and Bayern are pushing for a sale.

However, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think the youngster should remain in North London beyond the end of the season.

“I don’t want Tottenham to sign Tel permanently,” King said.

“He has done nothing for me since he has arrived in North London. I was very disappointed when he took the penalty instead of Brennan Johnson. That turned me against him.

“For me, he is not a player who would benefit Tottenham in the future. He doesn’t provide a threat.”

Tel has a lot to prove to Tottenham

Tel hasn’t necessarily blown anyone away with his performances for Tottenham.

However, he is still a teenager and could be a player who improves as time goes on. Therefore, with his future at Bayern uncertain, Tel must prove between now and the end of the season why he should remain at Tottenham.
