Marcus Rashford transfer ‘to unsettle’ Son Heung-min as Tottenham talks underway
Marcus Rashford’s potential move to Tottenham could cause some problems behind the scenes.
According to the Independent (13 January), Ange Postecoglou’s side have started informal talks over a January loan move for Rashford.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported via Milan News (14 January) that the Manchester United star’s brother – who is also his agent – had a meeting scheduled with the Red Devils on Wednesday (15 January) to discuss the player’s future.
However, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think it would be a good idea for the North London side to sign Rashford.
“I’d be very surprised if Manchester United allow him to go to another Premier League club,” King said.
“Also, there are many Spurs players who are earning big money, but not Rashford’s kind of money. Therefore, if he were to join the club, not only would it be expensive, but it would also impact the wage structure at Tottenham.
“If that were to happen, I think it would unsettle some of the players. I’d imagine Son Heung-min is probably the club’s best-paid player right now. However, he isn’t earning anywhere near the kind of money Rashford is earning.
“Therefore, I don’t think he would be happy if somebody like Rashford were to come in and earn more money than him. There are enough problems at Tottenham at the moment, so why would you want to instigate another one?”

Spurs are known to operate a tight budget behind the scenes, especially when it comes to wages – something Daniel Levy has been urged to change.
Therefore, it would be quite surprising if the club were willing to pay Rashford’s wages. However, if United decide to let him go, they could agree to cover some of the forward’s salary.
That could make a transfer more likely, and offer Postecoglou another quality option going forward.
However, if the potential move is going to cause problems behind the scenes, it doesn’t seem worthwhile.
