Man United could lure Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario to Old Trafford

Ex-Tottenham scout Bryan King believes that goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario would be tempted by a move to Old Trafford if Manchester United were to come calling.

Spurs signed Vicario from Serie A outfit Empoli for an initial fee of £17.2million (Sky Sports News, 27 June 2023).

Vicario has enjoyed a positive debut season in the Premier League, starting every match in England’s top flight under Ange Postecoglou.

His brilliant form will have caught the eyes of plenty around England and Europe, and King believes that it wouldn’t be impossible to entice the 27-year-old away from North London.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “Andre Onana won’t win Manchester United anything.

“From United’s perspective, I think they should go out and sign Vicario. If they want to spend money, then spend money on players who are proven in the Premier League.

“Vicario would be tempted by a move to Old Trafford, without a doubt.”

Could Guglielmo Vicario quit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after just one season?

Vicario’s form has of course been a big boost for Spurs, but it will also lead to other clubs inevitably expressing an interest in the shot-stopper.

The Italy international has plenty of years ahead of him, and other clubs might want to make him their long-term number-one after his impressive displays this season.

Daniel Levy would of course be able to demand a large fee due to Vicario having only recently signed a long-term deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but it doesn’t make a transfer impossible.

Manchester United might be six points behind Postecoglou’s side in the Premier League, but no matter what, they’re always an attractive proposition due to the size and history of the club.

If they were to decide to replace Onana, it is not far-fetched to consider that they could come knocking for Vicario, which would be a real blow to Postecoglou and Tottenham.
