Lucas Bergvall ‘out of his depth’ after ‘disappointing’ Tottenham display v Galatasaray
Bryan King believes Lucas Bergvall looked “out of his depth” as Tottenham were beaten 3-2 by Galatasaray in the UEFA Europa League.
The ex-Spurs scout was unimpressed with the Sweden international’s “disappointing” display at RAMS Park on Thursday (7 November).
Bergvall started as Spurs were beaten for the first time in Europe this season, despite Dominic Solanke doing all he could off the bench to salvage a point.
And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think Bergvall looked comfortable in Istanbul.
“Rodrigo Bentancur did well when he came on,” King said.
“Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma showcased a lot of energy. However, I thought Bergvall was disappointing.
“He just looked totally out of his depth. He never got up to the pace of the game at all. However, Galatasaray isn’t an easy place to go, there is some atmosphere there.”
Lucas Bergvall struggles for Tottenham v Galatasaray
It was a night to forget for many of Spurs’ players, including Will Lankshear, who went from hero to zero after scoring his first goal for the club before being sent off.
Therefore, Ange Postecoglou will be keen to put this result behind him.

Spurs are still likely to qualify for the next round of the Europa League. However, if Bergvall wants to play any part in that, he will need to show much more going forward.
His impact in Turkey was minimal, and it is clear the 18-year-old has a lot of work to do.
