Liverpool need to pay major fee to hire Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou amid new manager update

Ex-Tottenham scout Bryan King does not believe that Ange Postecoglou will join Liverpool but has admitted that the Reds would “like” someone such as the Australian.

Liverpool will be on the hunt for a new manager this summer with Jurgen Klopp set to leave the club after more than eight years in charge at Anfield.

According to the Evening Standard (2 April), Liverpool will face competition from Barcelona for their top managerial target, Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim.

Xabi Alonso was a target for both the Reds and Bayern Munich, but his decision to stay put at Bayer Leverkusen means the two European heavyweights must look elsewhere.

Reflecting on whether or not Liverpool could make a move for Postecoglou after his impressive debut season in the Premier League, King has shared his thoughts on a potential switch for the Australian.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: Postecoglou has a reputation of being tough and old school, and I think Liverpool like that.

“But he is under contract in North London, and he certainly wouldn’t be cheap if it got that far.

“Personally, I am not sure he would be the man for the job. He could certainly come under consideration due to his style, but I imagine the compensation would be quite substantial.”

Could Ange Postecoglou quit Tottenham and join Liverpool this summer?

It wouldn’t be a surprise if Liverpool were considering Postecoglou as their next manager.

The 58-year-old has wasted little time turning Tottenham around and has them competing for a place in the UEFA Champions League just one season after finishing eighth and losing Harry Kane.

There have been ups and downs along the way, but Postecoglou has certainly proven his worth in England and would likely be on any potential shortlist on Merseyside.

However, he has only just started his project at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and after his success so far, it is hard to imagine Spurs chairman Daniel Levy letting him go.

In other Tottenham news, King has backed Spurs to sign a new goalkeeper after what happened to one senior star.
