Levy stance clear as Postecoglou sack call days away at Tottenham – Exclusive

Daniel Levy is set to make a final decision on Ange Postecoglou’s much-discussed future at Tottenham imminently.

The cloud over the Australian’s future has been looming for months, and is set to be announced now that the Premier League season is over.

Levy was noticeably tight-lipped about the manager in his post-Europa League statement, fuelling the likelihood that they are set to part ways.

Postecoglou seemed befuddled that his future was still being questioned in his final press conference of the season, claiming that he delivered on his main objective to bring silverware to North London.

Levy to make decision this week

Levy did not want to repeat the mistake he made in 2021, when he fired Jose Mourinho a week before a major final.

As such, he trusted Postecoglou to see through to the end of their Europa League campaign, which ultimately proved to be the right call.

However, Premier League form has been abysmal since the turn of the year in particular, leading the chairman to scout for other options in the last few weeks.

However, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has said that Levy’s time to make a decision is up, and he must take decisive action.

“I would have thought the decision would come as quickly as possible,” King said.

“That way, if they’re going to bring someone new in, he has time to prepare for pre-season. If Levy is going to get rid of Postecoglou, there is no point delaying that decision.

“What worries me is why Levy hasn’t stated that Tottenham are going to stick by Postecoglou. It seems to point to me that there could be a change, and as I’ve said, that should happen as soon as possible.

“That way, people know what they’re doing in the summer, because if a new manager is brought in, there are going to be changes in the backroom staff.

“If Levy is going to make a decision, it will be made this week.”

Levy treading dangerously with Postecoglou decision

Postecoglou is by no means without his critics, nor does his Europa League success absolve the former Celtic manager from all the blame directed his way.

There is logic in worrying about the 59-year-old’s ability to simultaneously compete on multiple fronts with his high-octane style of football, yet the manager does have credit in his bank and an alluring personality, which has won favour over many fans.

As such, Levy must ensure that if he replaces Postecoglou, he gets the appointment right, otherwise it could be seen as the biggest blunder in his 24-year tenure as chairman.
