Kevin Danso to make Tottenham debut v Liverpool, first-team regular axed
Kevin Danso is expected to make his Tottenham debut against Liverpool on Thursday.
Ange Postecoglou can lift a significant amount of pressure off his shoulders by reaching the Carabao Cup final on 6 February. Spurs travel to Anfield for the second leg of their semi-final tie against Liverpool with a 1-0 lead after the first leg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday 8 January.
However, things will be far from easy on Merseyside, especially after yet another crushing blow with one player set for surgery [via Jack Pitt-Brooke, 3 February].
Therefore, Postecoglou will be grateful for the arrival of Danso, and Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – expects that Archie Gray could make way for the centre-back.
“I’d say this is the biggest game of Postecoglou’s career,” Wenham said.
“If we can get to the Carabao Cup final, the confidence it will give the players would be enormous, especially beating Liverpool.
“I think we will see Kinský in goal, Pedro Porro at right-back and Djed Spence at left-back. Hopefully, we will see Micky van de Ven start, and then I do believe Alex Danso will make his debut.
“We’ve paid decent money for him so bring him straight into the team and let him play.”
Kevin Danso to make Tottenham debut v Liverpool?
Making your debut for a new club is always nerve-wracking. However, making that debut in a cup semi-final at Anfield is about as hard as it can get.
Therefore, supporters would be wise not to expect too much of the centre-back in what will be a difficult first game for the club. However, if the 26-year-old puts in a big performance on Merseyside, he will make himself an instant Spurs hero and put to bed any doubts over his arrival.
Even if van de Ven isn’t fit to feature, Danso will still likely start, just alongside Gray rather than the Dutchman.

Therefore, the Austrian defender should already be mentally preparing himself for what might be the biggest game of his career to date.
