John Wenham – Tottenham played ‘scintillating’ football in win v Fulham

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes the “scintillating stuff” Tottenham played against Fulham was some of their “best football of the season”.

Ange Postecoglou’s side created a two-point cushion at the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 win against Fulham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday (23 October).

It was a positive evening all round, as Postecoglou broke the record for the number of points massed (23) by a Premier League manager after his first nine games in charge.

And Wenham has picked out some key points from the result.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Absolutely delighted with the result, some of the football we were playing in the first half was really scintillating stuff, probably some of our best football of the season.

“Just like in the Luton game, we could have been three or four ahead by halftime, we were just trying to score the perfect goal, and when it did come it was a Son Heung-min special, that finesse finish into the top corner.

“It is fantastic to see his confidence is sky high at the moment, just two goals behind Erling Haaland in the Golden Boot race.

“Richarlison getting an assist will do his confidence the world of good, Guglielmo Vicario recorded his fourth clean sheet in nine Premier League games and made two big saves on the night.

“In terms of an all-round performance, it was really positive, especially when considering we were missing Yves Bissouma, I thought Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg slotted in perfectly, so that’ll be really good for his confidence and the squad as a whole.”

In other Tottenham news, Hojbjerg showcased his quality with one key contribution during the victory.
