John Wenham: Tottenham board must prove to ‘top-class’ Postecoglou they are ‘fully behind him’

Tottenham must now prove to Ange Postecoglou that they are “fully behind him” and put “trust” in his transfer recommendations, according to John Wenham.

Postecoglou has made a wonderful start to life as Spurs boss, already winning the hearts of his new supporters in a short space of time.

However, the club’s recent 4-1 defeat against Chelsea, and the injuries and suspensions which came as a result of that dramatic clash, have revealed the lack of depth in the Australian’s squad at this moment in time.

As a result, Wenham believes that the board must now get behind their manager, who has earned the right to be trusted.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “He has shown his quality with how he has got the team playing and the results, beating Liverpool for the first time at the new stadium, getting a point away at Arsenal, now it is time for the club to back their manager.

“If he wants two centre-backs, and our fans have never heard of them, back him, he deserves that trust.

“If he wants two players from the Japanese League because they’re suited to his system and his scouting team has told him to get those players, then go and get them.

“He’s a top-class manager, top-class guy, somebody the players respond really well to, so for me, we have to go out there and show him that we’re fully behind him.

“If a fantastic opportunity on paper appears for a certain player from Real Madrid or Barcelona, and Ange says he does not want them, respect that decision, I think that’s really important.

“Also, if we make the signings early, for the board’s own sake, they can keep the pressure off their backs.”
