John Wenham says Tottenham Under-21s are ‘absolutely flying’ after five straight wins

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

Tottenham Under-21s are “absolutely flying” with Jude Soonsup-Bell having his “best game” since arriving at the club in their most recent outing, according to John Wenham.

On Saturday 2 September the Under-21s made it five straight wins to kick off the 2023/24 season with an empathic 4-0 victory away from home against Blackburn in Premier League Two.

Goals from Soonsup-Bell, Jamie Donley and Will Lankshear were enough to seal the points and maintain the youngster’s perfect start to their campaign.

And Wenham believes it was a particularly impressive result when taking into account the notable absences from the squad.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “The Under-21s are absolutely flying. It was an impressive result, especially considering that the team was missing a few key players.

“Ashley Phillips, who was called up to go on the bench with the first team, Nile John, who I know travelled with the first team as the 20th man against Burnley. Also, Harvey White, who completed his permanent move to Stevenage and Alfie Devine, who is now on loan with Port Vale.

“So, they were missing a lot of players that literally started the game before. However, they had the likes of Michael Craig, who has come back from injury, and Rio Kyerematen, who has come up from the Under-18s, those two stepped up and the team just continued to play in the same vein.

“There were a couple of tactical changes from Wayne Burnett against Blackburn. We saw Jude Soonsup-Bell play on the right wing, which is a position I haven’t seen him play before and he was very good, probably the best game I’ve seen him have so far for Tottenham.

“He got himself two goals and was a constant menace throughout. Jamie Donley netted another goal and Will Lankshear continued his fine form with another goal.

“Overall, they’re just playing really exciting stuff at the moment, and they’ve got loads of prospects in the team, so there is lots to look forward to with them.”

In other Tottenham news, Wenham believes that the FA Cup must now be a priority for the club.
