John Wenham: Luton play like ‘Championship side in the FA Cup’, Spurs must ‘target maximum points’

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes Tottenham must “target maximum points” from their trip to Kenilworth Road where they will play Luton Town in the Premier League on Saturday 7 October.

Spurs will put their unbeaten start to the season to the test when they take on the Hatters, who have won just one of their seven league games so far this season.

A win would move Ange Postecoglou’s men to the top of the Premier League ahead of Manchester City’s trip to the Emirates, where Pep Guardiola’s men will face Arsenal on Sunday 8 October.

Wenham said Luton look like a team from the second tier playing FA Cup ties and wants Tottenham to take full advantage to maintain their excellent early-season form.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “From what I’ve seen of Luton so far, it really does look like when you play a Championship side in the FA Cup. Lots of stoppages and not much football on show.

They have been a bit better in recent weeks, playing three at the back and they have looked a bit better in that system.

“I don’t know if they are going to change things around for the visit of Tottenham, but they certainly seem like one of the clubs that will be going back down, that bottom three is kind of already cementing itself sadly for those teams.

“This is a game where we need to target maximum points and look to pick up our third away win of the season already.
