John Wenham hopes for ’emphatic’ win over Sheffield United if Tottenham can stay injury free during international break

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

Tottenham can score an “emphatic” win over Sheffield United but must first count on their players to get through the international break injury free, according to John Wenham.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham are on fire in the Premier League, winning three of their opening four games and drawing the other at Brentford, and have the visit of the Blades awaiting them after the international break is over on Saturday 16 September.

Many will have Spurs as favourites for that game, although they have plenty of stars who are vital to their success currently away on international duty.

And Wenham is counting on them to return fit and ready before focusing on the game against Paul Heckingbottom’s side.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “We have to see a win and lots of goals again. Of course, it will depend on what happens over the international break, we have to hope that we don’t get any injuries during that time.

“A lot of our players have been called up, Guglielmo Vicario has been called up for Italy, where he’ll be battling with Gianluigi Donnarumma hopefully over the next five years for that number one spot. Italy are lucky to now have two outstanding goalkeepers in my opinion.

“Micky van de Ven has received a first call-up for the Dutch national team, (James) Maddison is in the England squad, we do have a lot of call-ups, so you’ve just got to hope for no injuries and then we can take it from there.

“For the game itself, I want to see us go at it, on the front foot, in a similar style to the way we did it for the Manchester United home game, there will be a good atmosphere in the stadium and obviously Sheffield United aren’t as good as Manchester United.

“Therefore, we have just got to get there, get the job done and get another three points on the board. Hopefully another emphatic win and a clean sheet as well.”

In other Tottenham news, the club have permanently sold one of their young defenders.
