John Wenham delighted with the reported signing of ‘outstanding young prospect’ Alejo Veliz
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
Alejo Veliz is a fantastic signing and Tottenham will benefit if they continue to bring in players of that particular “mould”, according to John Wenham.
Spurs are reportedly set to complete the signing of Veliz from Rosario Central in Argentina for a transfer fee of around £12million, not including add-ons.
This is according to Fabrizio Romano, who provided the update via Twitter (3 August) and reported that a medical is set to take place in the “next days.”
And Wenham is delighted with the signing of the 19-year-old striker who he has described as an “outstanding young prospect,” and hopes that the club help him to make the transition from South America to Europe smoothly.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Very much see him in the mould of signings we’ve made in the last two summers of Destiny Udogie and Pape Matar Sarr, picking up an outstanding young prospect.
“With Veliz, I think they’ll get them in, they’ll have a look at him, I don’t see him playing for the Under-21s, we’ve got a lot of forwards in that team already, too many.”

“Depending on other situations, and players potentially leaving or going, obviously, if we keep Kane, keep Richarlison, which I hope we do, then I think he will go on loan.
“If we could get a loan within England, for him, then that would be ideal. There is no better way of learning the culture than getting down to a Millwall or something like that and getting games under your belt and learning the rigours of English football.
“Obviously, Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso being at the club will help him greatly. I think he plays with a relative, maybe even a brother of Lo Celso for Rosario already, so I hope they can help him settle in.

“It’s always a big move, moving at such a young age from anywhere, never mind moving from South America, it is a very different culture and style of football to England.
“I certainly think we need to do everything we can to obviously help him settle in and integrate. I just think it’s another signing, like the two I mentioned, we’re picking up an outstanding prospect each season and I am very much for that policy.“
In other Tottenham News, another brand new signing could soon be on his way to Hotspur Way in the form of a central defender.
