John Wenham: Bryan Gil and Giovani Lo Celso on ‘final chance’ at Tottenham

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes the next few months represent Giovani Lo Celso and Bryan Gil’s “final chance” at Tottenham.

Gil is yet to make an appearance for Tottenham this season, having featured on the bench for the club’s past two matches, victories against Luton Town and Fulham, after returning from injury.

Meanwhile, Lo Celso played for the first time since 29 August when he came off the bench against Fulham on Monday 23 October, having also been sidelined with an injury of his own.

In truth, both players have struggled since making moves to Tottenham, enjoying more success while out on loan, and Wenham believes the pair have one final chance to prove themselves.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Avoiding injuries to key players, I think that will be key until we get to January when we can address our squad depth issue and make some additional signings.

“The likes of Bryan Gil and Giovani Lo Celso are both back, so it would be great if we could actually get some contributions out of those players because, to date, both of them have offered very little.

“It is all well and good going off and winning things with Sevilla or Argentina, but I am not interested in that, I’m interested in what you’re doing in a Tottenham shirt.

“Hopefully we can see some positive contributions from them and if not, then both of them must be sold in January and we need to go and sign players that are going to make a positive contribution to Tottenham.

“Those two players are now on their final chance for me.”
