Johan Lange involvement in Lucas Bergvall pursuit ‘key’ after last-minute Fabrizio Romano update – Spurs Expert

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes Johan Lange is the “key” driving force behind a late Tottenham attempt to sign Lucas Bergvall from Djurgårdens IF amid Barcelona’s pursuit of the midfielder.

As per Fabrizio Romano via X (31 January), the La Liga giants are “confident” of wrapping up a deal for the wonderkid, although Tottenham have made an “important proposal” as they look to hijack the move.

Although he is still yet to turn 18, Bergvall has already made his debut for the Sweden national team, and his eye-catching performances have seen some of Europe’s elite turn their heads toward the youngster.

Spurs are clearly keen to rival Barcelona for the player’s signature, and Wenham believes that Lange’s involvement could prove to be important.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “This has certainly caught me by surprise. Bergvall has been in Barcelona already and you don’t see many 17-year-olds visit the club and turn down the opportunity to join them.

“This perhaps has something to do with Lange and his key connection to the Scandinavian market, and as far as I am concerned any good young player is always welcome at Tottenham.

“We have put our hand up and suggested that we would be interested in signing the player if his move to Barcelona does fall through, and he’s obviously a very highly talented prospect so it would be an exciting move.”
