Johan Lange baffles as Aston Villa close in on beating Arsenal to record deal
Johan Lange looks to have missed a trick at Tottenham as Aston Villa move ahead of Arsenal in the race to seal a record-breaking transfer.
It has been a difficult season for Tottenham, with Daniel Levy expected to sack Ange Postecoglou as a result.
However, as well as a potential change in the dugout, there has been some reshuffling behind the scenes in North London, with Vinai Venkatesham set to begin his role as chief executive officer of Tottenham this summer, while Scott Munn looks set to move on from Spurs.
Meanwhile, it has been suggested that Lange could also leave Tottenham, and after a recent transfer update, it would be difficult to argue against the decision to sack the 45-year-old.

Aston Villa lead the race for Rosenborg midfielder Sverre Nypan
Lange has been widely criticised by Tottenham supporters during his time in North London.
And it looks as though the Dane has once again taken his eyes off the ball, with Fabrizio Romano reporting via X on Tuesday (22 April) that Aston Villa are closing in on an agreement with Rosenborg midfielder Nypan, with club-to-club talks to follow and a confidence that a deal will get done.
Rosenborg | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Sverre Nypan | 63 | 14 | 11 |
Arsenal had been in for Nypan since January [Lyall Thomas]. However, ex-Spurs and Villa scout Bryan King revealed exclusively to Villa News that Unai Emery’s side are favourites to sign Nypan in a record-breaking transfer from Norwegian side Rosenborg.
However, King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t understand why Spurs aren’t in the race, especially with Lange’s connection to the Scandinavian market.
“It seems strange that Spurs aren’t in for Nypan as they have a Scandinavian chief in Lange,” King said.
“There have been a few clubs interested, Arsenal being one of them, because of Martin Ødegaard. Therefore, I question why Spurs aren’t in the running. They talk about bringing in young players all the time; surely they must have had Nypan on the radar.
“However, I think Nypan will get more of a chance at Villa than he would with Spurs or Arsenal. However, it is a disappointment not seeing Tottenham in the frame”.
Tottenham to regret not signing Nypan
Tottenham know better than anyone the impact an 18-year-old midfielder coming into the team can make after Lucas Bergvall’s arrival last summer.
The Swede has shone in North London and looks to have a bright future at Tottenham.
Therefore, Spurs could regret missing out on Nypan, and it seems odd that Lange wouldn’t have at least made a move for a talented young player with plenty of experience coming out of Norway.
