James Maddison injury concern emerges after ‘Strange’ decision in Tottenham win v Luton Town

Ex-Tottenham scout Bryan King fears James Maddison might have picked up an injury after Ange Postecoglou’s “strange” decision to bring the midfielder off against Luton Town.

Spurs came from behind to beat the Hatters 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (30 March).

It was a much-needed win and three points in the race for UEFA Champions League football, although Spurs certainly weren’t at their best.

Maddison wasn’t able to provide the impact on the game he would have liked, and was hooked by Postecoglou in the 68th minute with the score tied at 1-1.

The England international didn’t look best pleased as he was brought off, and King fears that he might have picked up an injury.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “I am questioning whether maybe he is injured, or he had picked up a knock and Postecoglou didn’t want to take any risks with West Ham on the horizon?

“Perhaps he was just frustrated about being pulled off and was just expressing his displeasure.

“It certainly seemed a strange decision to bring him off at that stage of the game.”

James Maddison will be crucial for Tottenham during the final games of the Premier League season

Spurs supporters will be keeping their toes and fingers crossed that Maddison’s substitution was nothing more than a tactical decision from Postecoglou.

Bringing off arguably your most creative player when you’re chasing a goal did seem like a strange decision, but the Australian might have had his reasons.

And in the end, Postecoglou was proved right as his side netted a late winner.
