Ivan Toney tipped to cause disruption at Tottenham as Spurs transfer news continues to rumble

John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose has urged Tottenham to avoid signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

Spurs are one of several clubs interested in signing the 28-year-old, with their London rivals Chelsea and West Ham also in the mix.

And according to The Sun (3 April), Manchester United might now be the side in pole position to sign the England international.

While Toney would certainly represent a high-profile signing for Ange Postecoglou, Wenham wants Spurs to look elsewhere.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham, the founder of reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, said: “I believe we’re building a certain style of squad under Postecoglou, and there is a certain harmony among the players at the club.

“Toney is just not for me. I think he will cost us big money, and actually, he could disrupt what we’re building in the changing room.

“That is not a transfer I want to see us pursue.”

Could Ivan Toney join Tottenham to play under Ange Postecoglou?

It is no secret that Tottenham need a new number nine.

Recent performances in the Premier League have revealed a lack of cutting-edge up front in North London, and Spurs could look to address that during the summer.

However, wherever Toney goes, controversy often follows, and that is the last thing Spurs need right now.

After an incredibly disruptive season under Antonio Conte, Postecogolou appears to have restored some peace at Hotspur Way, and the last thing Tottenham need is a disruptive character in the changing room.

Toney would certainly bring goals, but the extra baggage he provides might not be worth those goals.
