‘It’s madness’ – Tottenham Expert ‘surprised’ at Pedro Porro decision by Thomas Frank
Thomas Frank will be hoping that even his most unpopular choices pay off while manager at Tottenham.
Tottenham sacked Ange Postecoglou and installed Frank at the helm in the hope of seeing real progress in the Premier League.
So far, so good for the Dane whose side is currently third in the Premier League table, thanks to Spurs’ most recent win over Leeds United.
Frank has the potential to do big things in North London, but unfortunately for him, he won’t be able to please everyone.
Pedro Porro omitted from Tottenham leadership team
Frank’s leadership group at Tottenham went live earlier this month, raising a few eyebrows among fans.
Spurs’ captain Cristian Romero was joined by Ben Davies, Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison, who are all seen by the Dane to have the necessary leadership qualities to unify the dressing room.
Pedro Porro was one player omitted from the group, in a decision which Tottenham expert and Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – found surprising.
“I was slightly surprised that Porro was omitted from the leadership team,” Wenham said.
“He had captained Tottenham, I think it was against Doncaster, and then the announcement was literally a week later, when he wasn’t in a group of five.
“Joao Palhinha naturally is a leader, and he’s only on loan, so it’d be a bit of a disappointment, maybe to the other players that are permanently here, if he came in and was instantly part of that. But I think he knows that he’s a leader already.
“The other one is probably quite disappointed, is Rodrigo Bentancur. Looking at his age and where he is in his career, but he can’t have otherwise, we’d just say we’ve got a leadership team and it consists of nine players or something. It’s madness.”
How has Pedro Porro performed for Tottenham this season?
Porro has been solid for most of the season, although some of his most recent performances have raised a few eyebrows.
Indeed, Porro was blasted for his display against Leeds United, which the Lilywhites ended up winning thanks to a moment of brilliance from Mohammed Kudus.
But all and all, he has been one of the better performing fullbacks in the Premier League if stats from Sofascore at to be believed.
- He has accumulated 0.88 in expected assists through 1.4 key passes per game
- Porro has recovered 3.4 balls per game and has made 4.0 clearances
- He has won 75 per cent of his aerial duels
There is no doubt that Porro is the perfect blend of offensive and defensive talent. But his job going forward will be to show that more consistently.
