Injury Expert: Tottenham goalkeeper Whiteman could miss up to six months
We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Tottenham Hotspur...
Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman may miss up to six months in the event of a worst-case scenario, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert believes that it is a grade 3 ankle inversion but without having a clear diagnosis it may even be a grade 3 high ankle tear.
Whiteman is still some way away from returning to full training but whenever he does, he’ll go through progressive levels of intensity to regain fitness and sharpness.

Discussing Whiteman’s situation exclusively with Tottenham News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “All we know about Whiteman’s injury is that it’s ankle related and he had to be stretchered off.
“The best case scenario, considering he needed surgery, would be a grade 3 inversion ankle sprain injury with a fracture that requires stabilisation in which case you’re looking at 6-8 weeks.
“The worst case would be a grade 3 tear, unstable high ankle injury which can be six-plus months out.
“When back in training, he will go through progressive levels of intensity especially to test lateral, side-to-side, movement and confidence in his kicking and kick-stopping, which puts significant force through the ankle.“
The 24-year-old picked up an injury in pre-season for Spurs after which he needed to undergo surgery and is yet to return from it.
He had to be carried off on a stretcher during an open training session in Singapore back in July due to an ankle injury.

The Englishman has been at Spurs since 2015 and made his senior debut in the UEFA Europa League against Ludogorets in November 2020.
Fraser Forster currently is the backup goalkeeper to Guglielmo Vicario and Whiteman was looking to win over Ange Postecoglou to become the number two in pre season, but things did not go to plan for him.
In other Tottenham news, a forgotten Spurs full-back may feel like a new signing under Postecoglou.
