Injury Expert: Tottenham defender van de Ven suffered hamstring setback v Chelsea, will not need surgery

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Tottenham Hotspur...

Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven’s injury v Chelsea will keep him out for a number of weeks, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert does not see him returning before January after his horrific setback on Monday, 6 November.

Spurs ended up losing that game 4-1 and had just nine men on the field of play at the final whistle.

Discussing van de Ven’s situation exclusively with Tottenham News, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “The timeline, based on how I see the injury, is around two months and no surgery will be required.

“This would indicate a likely Grade 2 injury which is quite good considering how it happened.

“The amount of space and intensity of sprints he’s required to run certainly can contribute to potential reinjury.

“Spurs certainly will be careful of how they handle his return, but he’ll be out until January.”

The 22-year-old moved to Spurs this summer and has been an exceptional signing for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

The Dutchman has been one of the fastest centre-backs in the Premier League and was among the first names on the team sheet.

He’s played 11 league games for Spurs and has also scored a goal – which is something he’ll certainly be pleased about.

While it’s a relief that he won’t be needing surgery, not playing until January, will be a blow for him and the manager.

In other Tottenham news, a forgotten Spurs full-back may feel like a new signing under Postecoglou.
