Guglielmo Vicario shock: Injured Tottenham star ‘could start’ v Brentford

Guglielmo Vicario could return to the Tottenham lineup against Brentford on Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou’s side will travel to the Gtech Community Stadium on 2 February in search of a much-needed Premier League win, with the Australian expected to make three changes for the clash.

Radu Drăgușin became the latest player to suffer an injury in North London, while Cristian Romero looks no closer to a return, leaving Spurs incredibly light, particularly at the back.

However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has speculated that Vicario could hand Postecoglou a boost by making a shock return against Brentford.

“Perhaps Vicario will return to the team,” Wenham said.

“I do wonder because we’ve got that game at Liverpool coming up, and if he’s training fully, at some point he’s got to come back in.

“Therefore, I do wonder if we might see Vicario return to the starting lineup.”

Guglielmo Vicario to return for Tottenham against Brentford?

Postecoglou has been known to keep players returning from injury a secret before.

Nobody expected Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero to start in the 4-3 Premier League defeat to Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday 8 December – although that didn’t end up being such a good idea – while Rodrigo Bentancur made a surprise return in Postecoglou’s first season in charge.

Therefore, while it would be surprising to see Vicario slot back in against the Bees, it certainly wouldn’t be out of character for Postecoglou to welcome back a player earlier than expected.

However, should the Italian start, Antonín Kinský will perhaps feel a little hard done by, especially after his performances since signing for the club.

In other Tottenham news, the club have made an approach to sign a Chelsea forward.
