Girona to make decision on Bryan Gil transfer amid £12.4m Tottenham exit update

Girona appear as though they could be set to offer Bryan Gil an exit route from Tottenham.

As reported by Diario AS (2 January), the La Liga club are “seriously considering” taking up their option to make Gil’s loan stay with the club a permanent one for a fee of £12.4million.

It has been speculated that even if Girona don’t sign Gil permanently, another Spanish club will.

However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t expect any decisions to be made until the summer.

“Girona have Gil on loan, he is playing regularly and he is contributing,” Wenham said.

“He even got himself back into the Spain squad. Therefore, it would make no sense for them to sign him permanently now. Personally, I don’t see that happening until the summer.

“Girona know they’ve got an option to sign him before Tottenham can agree a deal with another club. Therefore, as long as they utilise that option, they know that he will sign for them, no matter how well he plays between now and the end of the season.

“They might even sign him and then sell him on for a profit, who knows. However, from their point of view, it makes sense to wait until the end of the season.”

Bryan Gil to quit Tottenham and return to Spain

Once Gil does leave Spurs, it will bring to an end an incredibly underwhelming stay for the 23-year-old in the Premier League.

The forward has shown signs of potential at times. However, it seems as though he just isn’t cut out for life in English football. As a result, Tottenham would no doubt be glad to see the back of Gil, especially if they can recoup some of they money they paid for him in the process.

Ange Postecoglou also doesn’t seem to have the forward in his plans, although there is no guarantee the Australian will remain in North London with calls for him to be sacked after the club’s poor run of form.

However, no matter who the next manager is, it probably wouldn’t make much sense for Gil to remain at Tottenham.
