Exclusive: UEFA ‘could’ change Tottenham v Man United venue, they like Wembley

Tottenham fans are preparing to descend on Bilbao for the huge Europa League final against Manchester United next week.

Despite a disastrous domestic campaign, Ange Postecoglou and Spurs could still qualify for the Champions League, ending their trophy drought as they do it.

With prices skyrocketing around the Basque Country and flights across, Matt Le Tissier recently suggested that the final should be moved to England.

The Southampton legend argued that if two clubs from the same country are in the final, it should be moved to that region.

UEFA could move Europa League final

Although it won’t happen, Keith Hackett has shared that it’s not impossible to change venue, but it would be done if UEFA see financial gain.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, the ex-FIFA official admits that the governing body does appear to like Wembley, with great planning included in these major finals.

UEFA take great care with the planning of their finals, along with the selection and organisation of the venues across Europe,” Hackett said.

“This includes the full dressing of the Stadium, meetings about security, and satisfying sponsors’ requirements.

“It is not impossible to change, but I am sure that it could be done if UEFA see some financial gain.

Levy ready for huge Tottenham success

Daniel Levy is known for his commercial success, and he would likely applaud such a controversial change if the benefits were that large.

Of course, it will never happen, and Tottenham will be raring to get across to Spain and try to beat Manchester United for the fourth time this season.

Athletic Bilbao could have been the opponents at their own stadium, but the Spaniards crashed and burned against the Red Devils in the semi-final.

All English finals have happened plenty of times in European competition, and no special treatment was given then, so don’t expect it here.

Tottenham will be hoping for much more luck than the recent Champions League final defeat to Liverpool, which was held at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid.
