Exclusive: Tottenham shock industry sources after multi-million transfer agreement
Spurs shocked industry sources in Croatia with the fee they agreed to pay for wonderkid Luka Vuskovic, Tottenham News has been told.
Tottenham agreed a fee of £12million to sign Vuskovic, who has recently turned 17, from Croatian outfit Hajduk Split earlier this season (Evening Standard, 25 September).
FIFA rules prohibit British clubs from signing overseas players under the age of 18 which means the centre-back must wait until 2025 to head to North London and join up with Ange Postecoglou’s side.
There was plenty of reported interest in the Croatian’s signature from a host of top European clubs, including some of Spurs’ Premier League rivals such as Liverpool and Manchester City.
This might explain why Spurs were required to pay what seems quite a substantial fee for a player who at the time was still just 16 years old.
Did Tottenham overpay to bring Luka Vuskovic to the Premier League?
A recruitment source with close links to Spurs and the Croatian market has exclusively revealed to Tottenham News that there was plenty of surprise at Spurs’ decision to fork over £12million for Vuskovic.
The source claims that people in Croatia were surprised Vuskovic generated “that type of money.”
Spurs fans will have to wait until the beginning of the 2025/26 season to decide whether or not they feel that Vuskovic is worth the fee paid to bring him to England.
Ahead of his arrival at Hotspur Way, as exclusively revealed by Tottenham News back in September, Hajduk Split have decided to send Vuskovic out on loan to continue his development.
He is currently playing his football in Poland with Radomiak Radom, where he recently scored his first goal for the club as they recorded a 2-1 home victory over Stal Mielec (4 March).

Vuskovic has already made five appearances for Croatia’s Under-17s, scoring once.
In other Tottenham news, one pundit believes contact has already been made ahead of a potential Spurs transfer this summer.
