Exclusive: Premier League ‘could fine Tottenham over Gibbs-White’ as case study shared

Tottenham are once again in the middle of drama, this time with Morgan Gibbs White.

With a medical booked and release clause seemingly ready to be paid, it looked as though the England international was on his way to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

That’s when things took a turn.

Nottingham Forest have since insisted it was an illegal approach from the Lilywhites, with the £60million deal blocked and legal advice being sought.

Tottenham set for Premier League trouble?

Of course, it is against the rules to speak to players without their club’s permission, but it is even harder to prove that is the case.

Tottenham News has learned that the Premier League could fine Spurs if they are proven guilty, and although tough, it has happened before.

Ashley Cole is the most high-profile case, being fined alongside Chelsea and Jose Mourinho for secret talks before his move to Stamford Bridge back in 2005.

While there is no public evidence to suggest anything similar in this transfer, a source close to Tottenham News has shared that Forest look likely to complain to the Premier League officially.

Levy negotiations tough as Tottenham want Gibbs-White

With a £60million release clause said to have been triggered, it feels bizarre that any permission would have been withheld at that stage.

As reports shared far and wide that a medical was booked, how it got to that stage publicly before being possibly illegal creates more questions than answers.

Some have suggested a punishment could be as bad as a transfer ban if found guilty, but that has already been shut down by Tottenham insiders.

That makes a fine all the more likely.

Tottenham are said to remain confident over getting a deal across the line for Gibbs-White, which is brilliant news and hopefully, it shuts down any suggestions of punishment from the Premier League.

The sooner this saga is finished, the better.
